Are you in the final year of your OU studies or have recently finished studying? Considering what your next step might be?

This three-day series of events is designed to help you successfully transition from OU student to career confident graduate. Read more about the sessions and register for those you are interested in at the links below. We’ll help you work out your next steps and equip you to pursue your goals, whatever your location, background, ethnicity, mental or physical health conditions, identity, age, abilities and disabilities, lived experiences and differences. Just bring yourself.

In the Graduate Gateway Live programme, we specifically address key support areas our research shows that you, as a recent graduate or student approaching graduation, are likely to find useful:

  • How to build confidence to make career choices and navigate career roadblocks.
  • How to gain relevant experience, start networking and connecting with employers, and develop job search strategies.
  • How to use GenAI (generative Artificial Intelligence) tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot effectively in career planning and applications.
  • Postgraduate study options and requirements.

Successfully completing an OU qualification already proves you have the qualities employers are looking for. The latest research conducted for the OU by The Nursery research firm in 2024 shows employers are more likely to consider hiring OU graduates than two years ago, overtaking local providers. OU students are seen as more adaptable, work-ready and self-starters. Employers who currently work with OU graduates are more likely to say they have the skills, values and behaviours they expect.
